Does anyone else think that a scratched number in the side of the monument wasn't enough? I mean the Spartan was the best of his kind, and practically was the only thing standing between mankind's survival, and total extinction, or worse slavery. The man was a legend among soldiers, and just the thought of his presence in a firefight would cause soldiers to rejoice. They could at least erect a statue of him! It's good to know that when the hero of mankind dies, his funerals going to be worth as much as a scratched number on the side of a chunk of metal.

Wasn't the entire point that they wanted deniability, to forget that he'd ever existed? Erecting a giant statue of him, and teaching everyone about him would kind of defeat that.
